Meiji Period
1868    Boshin War broke out (Battle of Toba–Fushimi)
  Charter Oath(Oath in Five Articles)
           Five Public Notices
1869    Emoeror Meiji moved the capital to Tokyo.
1869    Boshin War ended (Battle of the Goryokaku)
1869    Return of lands and people to the emperor
1871    Postal service began between Tokyo,Kyoto and Osaka.
   Domains were replaced with prefectures.
           *End of the han system
   Sino-Japanese Friendship and Trade Treaty
   Iwakura Mission departed
1872    Ryukyu Domain established
   Fukuzawa Yukichi wote Gakumon no Susume.
   Gakusei (the Education System Order) 
   Railway service began between Tokyo and Yokohama. 
   Tomioka model filature began production.

1873    Choheirei 
   Christianity was legalized.
   Land Tax Reform
   Meiji roku-nen no Seihen caused by Seikanron 
1874    Itagaki Taisuke published the Minsen Giin Setsuritsu Kenpakusho.
   Saga Rebellion
   Peasant revolts against the land-tax reform
   Itagaki Taisuke founded Risshisha.

1875    Itagaki Taisuke founded Aikokusha.
   Treaty of Saint Petersburg (Karafuto-Chishima Kōkan Jōyaku)
1875    Ganghwa Island Incident

1880    League for the Establishment of a National Assembly (Kokkai Kisei Dōmei)
*1880 Shukai Jorei (Assembly Regulations)

1881    The scandal over the sale of the property owned by the Hokkaido Development Agency 
  Imperial Edict for Establishing a Diet issued
   Itagaki Taisuke formed the Liberal Party.
1882    Okuma Shigenobu formed the Constitutional Progressive Party.
*1882  Ito Hirofumi visited Europe to study the constitution.

*1883  Rokumeikan (Pavilion of the Deer's Cry) completed

1884    Chichibu incident
1885    The cabinet system was set up.
           *Ito Hirofumi became Prime Minister. 
1886    Normanton Incident
*1886  The Daido danketsu Movement
*1887  The Sandai Jiken Kenpaku Movement

*1888  Sumitsu-in installed

1889    Meiji Constitution officially announced
1890    Imperial Rescript on Education issued
   The first Lower House general election was held.
   The first Imperial Diet was opened.

1891    Ōtsu incident
   Ashio Kodoku Jiken (Ashio Mining Pollution) closed up
1894    Anglo-Japanese Treaty of Commerce and Navigation signed
            *the abolishment of extraterritoriality
1894    Donghak Peasant Revolution
           First Sino-Japanese War                                                                           
           *Sino-Japanese=Sin and Japan

1895    The Treaty of Shimonoseki was signed.
   Triple Intervention (Russia, Germany, and France)
1898    The first Okuma Cabinet(so-called the 'Waihan Cabinet') was established.
1900    Boxer Rebellion
1901    Yawata Steel Works opend 
1902    Anglo-Japanese Alliance
1904    Russo-Japanese War
           *Russo-Japanese=Russia and Japan
1905    The Treaty of Portsmouth was signed.
1909    ITO Hirobumi was murdered in Harbin.
1910    Kotoku Incident (Case of high treason)
   
           Japan's Annexation of Korea

1911    Japan-US commerce and navigation treaty signed
           *recovery tariff autonomy
1911    Xinhai Revolution (Chinese Revolution)
1912    Republic of China established
